Before you leave Detroit

This page is the pre-trip list for a Detroit visitor going to Caesars Windsor, 377 Riverside Drive East, Windsor, Ontario. It keeps to what can be checked: the door, the border agencies, the clock and the cashier.

What to carry

The door age comes from Ontario law. Section 2(3) of the Gaming Control Act, 1992, bars anyone under 19 from entering or staying on a gaming site unless they are there for work. At Caesars Windsor, the casino and the outlets tied to it are 19+, while guests of any age may visit the convention complex and the Augustus Tower.

To get a Caesars Rewards card or redeem Reward Credits, guests must show valid government-issued photo ID as proof of age, and management chooses which ID it will accept. The card also carries a separate age rule: only people 21 or older may enrol.

As advice, not a rule: carry that photo ID on every visit. Arriving across the river without it risks a wasted evening.

Who sets the border rules

Two agencies set the rules for this crossing. The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) sets them for entering Canada, on its own website. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP, cbp.gov) sets them for coming back into the United States. Each agency decides which travel documents it accepts.

This guide lists no border documents and gives no estimate of waits. Read the pages of both agencies before the trip, for the way over and the way back.

One clock on both banks

Time

Same clock on both banks

Pick a day and an hour. Both cities read the same Eastern clock.

    PlaceHours
    Casino flooropen 24/7

Sportsbook kioskskiosks 24/7; counter hours not published

Windsor and Detroit both keep Eastern Time, so a watch set in Detroit needs no change after the crossing. On the Windsor side, the casino floor runs 24/7, slots and tables. The 14-table poker room and the sportsbook kiosks also run 24/7, and the Tim Hortons is open 24 hours.

The two-clock tool beside this note reads both cities' time from the browser's time-zone data, America/Toronto and America/Detroit.

    Money and the phone line

For currency exchange, the main cashier at Caesars Windsor has the answers. The casino can be reached at 1-800-991-7777, with French service available by pressing 9, or locally at 519-258-7878. This guide does not list holiday changes to hours, so a phone call is the way to confirm them.

This is general advice, not a fact about this casino. Every casino game has a house edge, so over time players as a group lose more than they win. A spending limit set before the trip is easier to keep than one set at the table.

    Questions at the gate

Does a phone set to Detroit time need changing in Windsor?

No change is needed. Windsor and Detroit both keep Eastern Time, so the clock reads the same on both banks.

For the Rewards card, what proves a visitor's age?

Caesars Windsor asks for valid government-issued photo ID as proof of age when issuing a Caesars Rewards card or when guests redeem Reward Credits. Which ID counts as acceptable is up to management.

Who handles questions about US dollars on site?

The main cashier at Caesars Windsor has the information on currency exchange.

Which border documents does this guide list?

This guide lists no border documents. The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) sets the rules for entering Canada, and CBP (cbp.gov) sets them for entering the United States.
